Sandisk Extreme Portable Solid State Drive Full Review

SanDisk as one of the leading vendors in the storage solution segment has a product called the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD.

For those of you who need an uncompromising high-speed storage to support work or digital creation wherever you are, it feels like you need to look at the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. Why?

SanDisk presents the Extreme Portable SSD to target users who need high-speed storage to store high-quality photos, videos and audio to support creative activities.

In plain view, this external storage made by SanDisk looks different from most external storage that can be found on the market. If usually the design offered is quite simple and boxy to suit an office environment, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD actually brings a sportier design.

On the outside, it is covered with doff rubber texture which is not only soft to the touch but also makes it anti-slip. While the front is filled with small dots which also provide more grip when held so it doesn't fall easily.

Interestingly, in the upper right, there is a hole that can be used to attach the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD to a bag, jacket, or other to prevent accidental falls.

The design that is presented really feels like a breath of fresh air after so much SSD external storage that is quite similar to a power bank. Interestingly, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD still has dimensions that are quite small with a size of 96.2mm x 49.55mm x 8.85mm so it's easy to store in even a pocket.

Carrying a rugged design that is even sportier makes this portable storage from SanDisk IP55 certified as a sign that it is resistant to spills and splashes of water, rain, and dust.

In addition, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is also predicted to be resistant to shocks and vibrations from a height of 2 meters. This makes it more suitable for all-terrain portability than other devices as it provides a greater sense of security.

Even though it carries portability, the performance provided by the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is not kidding. Bringing an NVMe SSD storage solution with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface, its capabilities are claimed to be able to provide 1050 MB / s Read speeds and 1000 MB / s Write.

When tested using CrystalDiskMark 8, it can be seen that the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is able to reach 1023.56 MB / s for Read and 952.34 MB / s for Write in sequential testing. This figure is fast and above most SATA SSD storage.

But of course it's just a benchmark number, what about its performance when used for real?

For that I also tried to move 545 photos with a total size of up to 2GB. As a result, I only need to wait about 7 seconds for the process to finish with a transfer speed of up to 280 MB / s. It is incredibly fast considering the large number of files transferred.

Then I tried to move the 30GB game backup from Steam. This one test takes about 1 minute 5 seconds with an average transfer speed of quite stable at around 480 MB / s.

The capacity itself is 1TB in size for the variant I tested. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is also available with capacity variants including 250GB, 500GB, and 2TB. There is also a USB-C to USB-A adapter in the sales package when you want to connect to a device that doesn't have a USB-C port.

That way, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD can be used as an intermediary device to move data from one device to another thanks to its extremely fast transfer capabilities.

Of course, it can also be used as a backup solution for large data files because it won't take too long to complete the backup process.

The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is Plug and Play, which means that it can be directly connected to various devices, both Windows and Mac, without having to install software first.

However, this causes the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD to have no backup software or password system directly on it, so you need to download it separately if you need it. At least this is what I found on the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD that I tested.

The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is the ultimate high-speed storage solution that carries a rugged design. Therefore, this external storage made by SanDisk will be more suitable for carrying and use in various fields than most portable storage.

Moreover, there is already an IP55 certification which will certainly give users more security. For those of you who want to have it, the 1TB SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is available for around $ 200
